Academics is and will continue to be our primary focus at school as we endeavor to uphold our high standards and the resulting sound academic performances from year to year. We pay tribute to our teachers who have the qualifications and experience to reach and maintain the academic expectations that we set for ourselves.

These excellent results are achieved through:

  • A vibrant and positive attitude amongst parent(s)/guardian(s), learners and educators.

  • Modern, well equipped classrooms, laboratories, computer centres, art, technology and music rooms.

  • Our team of dedicated educators include an additional 36 teachers employed by the School Governing Body.

  • Smaller sized classrooms ranging from 15 to 30 learners per class.

  • Grade average of 64.2%

  • Awarded R15 000 for the most improved results in the Western Province in Mathematics and English for the Systemic Assessments of 2014. Awarded by the MEC Education, Western Cape.

2013

  • 249 candidates

  • 100% pass rate

  • 37 A aggregates

  • 66.8% grade average

  • Premier’s Award for Excellence in English

  • 18 pupils received 7 straight “A’s”

  • One learner offered an additional subject and scored 8 straight “A’s”

  • Placed in the Top 10 in the Province for performance in Maths and Sciences in the Systemic Tests of 2013

2012

  • 236 candidates

  • 100% pass rate

  • 27 A aggregates

  • 259 Subject Distinctions

  • 65% grade average

  • The school was invited to a luncheon hosted by the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille to receive an award for excellence in English Home language for having the highest number of A passes in our district and the highest number of English passes in the Western Cape.

  • In addition to this achievement we had top positions in the top 10 in the Western Cape in Information Technology 1st and 5th positions, Physical Science, Business Studies, Design and 4th, 5th and 6th positions in Additional Mathematics.

  • Two of our matrics were accepted to Medical Schools bringing to six the total number of our past pupils currently studying medicine.

  • We continue to receive congratulatory letters from the top universities in the country with respect to the quality of pupils that we send to university. Many of them are on Deans’ lists who graduate Cum Laude.

2011

2011 was another bumper academic year:

  • 100% pass rate from 210 candidates

  • 332 subject distinctions

  • 87% university entrance qualifications

  • Grade average 67%

  • 8 of our pupils were placed in the top 10 in the Western Cape in 8 different subjects including: Mathematics, Physical Science, Accountancy, Business Studies, Visual Art, English, Afrikaans and Life Orientation

  • We were the top school in the Northern Suburbs in Afrikaans Home Language Paper 2; with the highest number of A’s in the province in Business Studies

  • Top school in the Northern Suburbs in English.

2010

Our academic excellence continued:

  • 100% pass rate

  • Computer Information Technology average 75%

  • In a year where many schools were disappointed with their history results we had a subject average for history of 71%

  • 7 of our pupils were placed in the top 10 positions in the Western Cape in 7 different subjects

  • 4 of our matrics in 2010 were accepted into medical school

An academic highlight for Fairmont was the rating of 2nd position in SouthAfrica for Matric Mathematics by the Department of Basic Education and the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund. This award was received in 2010.

2009

In 2009, Fairmont was rated the 2nd top mathematics state school in South Africa. This earned us a grant in 2010 of R150 000 from the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund.
