CROSS COUNTRY

Cross country is a winter sport enjoyed by all learners irrespective of their athletic ability. During Pre-Covid times we competed in the Northern Zones Schools Cross Country league and provincial club league with many of our runners representing the NZ at the WP championships and our very best runners representing WP at the national championships. This year we introduced another competition between the two of the leading COED athletics schools (MTBS & TOP4), however due to Covid, this competition has currently been suspended. Hopefully, we can resume this competition once the Covid restrictions are lifted.

Our training program focuses on developing the following areas, Stamina, Strength, Speed, Suppleness and Skills but most importantly is to create an environment where our learners can enjoy the great outdoors, make new friends and embark on a healthy lifestyle.

We train three times a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) with club races taking place on Saturday.

RUNNING GEAR

Athletes must compete in the Fairmont athletics vest, green shorts or tights. In the colder months, athletes may wear a white or black shirt (short or long sleeve) under their vest (no other colour will be allowed). Athletes can run barefoot or with shoes (trainers or spikes).
