WELCOME TO THE FAIRMONT PARENT FORUM
In 2014, the former PTSA changed its structure and was renamed the Parent Forum in an effort to be more effective at involving all parents in the school in its fundraising and school improvement efforts.
A group of parent volunteers form the Core Parent Forum Group who meet once a month (or as necessary) with Mr Erasmus, a member of the School Governing Body, a Staff representative and an RCL representative.
Members of this Core group are responsible for arranging fundraising events which involve pupils and parents alike. These functions also call on other parents help when arranging these functions and they communicate with these helper parents via what’s app groups and emails. Our events range from Disco’s and Fun Runs to Bingo evenings and Quiz nights.
The core group also arranges Work Parties about twice a year depending the school needs. Over 50 benches have been built in the last 5 years allowing the kids to enjoy their lunch breaks. Gardens were redone or planted when new building work had been completed. Most recently the parents have assisted in building over 10 new Art easels for the art students to make use of. These parties are about meeting other parents and are ended off with a braai. There is a need for parents and children alike and all are welcome as the work is easy to do and lots of assistance for those not so handy.
Our main fundraising event is the Annual Golf Day which is being run by the Parent Forum from this year (2017). The need to raise sponsorships and organise the day requires many different skills so all can assists. Funds from this event are usually used to upgrade any sports fields or items.
The Parent Forum are involved in many of the school activities such as Matric Dance traffic marshalling and other school functions
We, as a committed group of parents who work to help make our children’s school experience the best it can be, have fun working together. Watch this space as well as the Facebook page for more details of our projects for this year and how you can be involved. We need you to contact one of the Parent Forum members listed below to give us your contact details and tell us how you wold like to help. Any help is welcome, whether you would like to join the Core Group or help at a function or perhaps sponsor at an event. We encourage you to join and be a part of the future of your child’s education and growth and have fun in the process. The impact on your time is minimal as most members are working parents the emphasis is to make the commitment flexible but rewarding!
