Fairmont 1st Team lifts Boys Summer League Hockey Trophy
Fairmont High School has won the summer league hockey trophy for 2011. The last three matches were crucial, as there were a number of schools that were still in the running at that stage. The match against Paarl Boys High was won (1 – 0) by Fairmont in the dying moments of the game. The one and only goal was scored by Peter Kempton-Jones.
The match, the following week against Settler’s, was a spectacular game to watch with Fairmont dominating most of the time. The match was played in a good spirit with Fairmont winning 3 – 0 with goals by Daniel Siddons, Michael Schmitz and Fabio Tallon.
The final match was played on Wednesday 16 March against Edgemead with Fairmont again dominating the game and scoring 3 goals to nil. The goals were scored by Warren Taylor, Kieran Gatenby and Daniel Siddons.
This summer league hockey season proved to be a well deserved victory for the Fairmont High School. The other schools participating in the summer league were The Settlers, Edgemead, Paarl Boys, Milnerton, Brackenfell and Table View.
Fairmont U16 Boys share the Boys Junior Summer League Hockey Trophy
In spite of winning three of their league matches by large margins, then beating Paarl Boys High School 2 – 1, Fairmont were held to a 1-all draw by the Western Cape Sports School. This game between the two schools was a wonderful exhibition of schoolboy hockey, with the superbly fit and well-drilled in ball skills team from the Sports School playing against the skilful and super-fit Fairmont team, who have been doing fitness training 3 days a week in the early morning, since the beginning of the term. The Sports School was established by the Western Cape Education Department in Kuilsriver, and is open to any boy, talented in sport from under-privileged communities. No words can describe the pleasure it has been to have such a talented, committed and well-behaved team join our summer league this year.
