RUGBY

1st XV Match Report

In a scrappy affair and in a game of missed opportunities Fairmont still managed to grind out a victory. Fairmont conceded two soft tries. The opposition consistently used illegal tactics at the breakdown point and Fairmont’s discipline did let them down once or twice.  It was however a hard derby game and Fairmont has retained their winning streak.

Fairmont 22 The Settlers 10

Tries were scored by Stuart Austin(1) and Tim Cronje(1)

Penalties by Chris Ward(3)

2ND XV Match Report

The 2nd XV had a successful outing against The Settlers on Saturday winning 8-0. Although The Settlers dominated possession Fairmont’s resilient defence made the difference after some refereeing calls went against them. The team’s performance was commendable having to deal with an athletic Settlers backline. There were some nervy moments and a disallowed try for Fairmont.  In the end resolute defence and good team discipline won through. Next up is the Milnerton Derby.

Tries: Michael Aitken (1)

Penalties: Adrian Louw

U15A Match Report

From the kick off Fairmont dominated in the scrums and the forwards forced the opponents to play their own game.  Most of the first half was spent in the opponent’s territory with Fairmont applying pressure that resulted in a penalty being given in the 9th minute.  Darren van Vulpen kicked the penalty over to take the score to 3 – 0 in Fairmont’s favor.  Fairmont continued attacking but could not finish the first half with more points on the board.

During the second half Fairmont continued attacking and once again spent most of the game in the opponents half, but could not break through the defence to score any more points.  The Settlers managed to score twice in the second half, taking their score to 10 points.

Even though the score board shows a 3 – 10 loss, the Fairmont team was dominant in most aspects of the game, especially in the front, but could not round off with more points on the board.

It was decided that there was no single “Man of the Match”, but the title of “Men of the Match” was awarded to all the forwards for their indomitable scrumming, dominant play in the line out’s, ruck’s and mauls, and consistent hard work during the whole game.

StatsHalf time score:                     Fairmont 3 – Settlers 0

            Final Score:                           Fairmont 3 – Settlers 10

10 scrums, 5 for Fairmont, 6 won

13 Line outs, 3 for Fairmont, 5 won

HOCKEY

1st Team:                    Match drawn 0 – 0.

In this highly entertaining game, both goalkeepers, Darren Evans (The Settlers) and Cameron Delport (Fairmont) brought off amazing saves, diving full length time and again, as play swung from end to end. The tussle between the two SA U18 players, Taylor Dart (FA) and Keenan Horne (SE) helped to make this an outstanding game.  In the end, a draw was a fair result.

U16A:                         Match drawn 0 – 0.

In this game spirited defence by The Settlers, plus weak shooting by the Fairmont attack, resulted in a drawn game.

U14A:                         Fairmont 2(1) beat The Settlers 1(0)

An early goal by Fairmont set this game alight, with The Settlers making every effort to equalize, just after the break. Finally Fairmont regained the lead with a cracking shot into the top of the net by the Fairmont captain, Jamie Christians.

Fairmont goals: Bradley Wade, Jamie Christians.

Settlers Goal: Matthew Jackson.

SOCCER

1st Team

Our brilliant soccer skills were so great that our opponents could not match our excellent performance which resulted in a massive 10 – 0 victory.  Congratulations to all the soccer team boys!

NETBALL

U14 Team

The Settlers’ Derby was an exciting day of netball for the U14 teams.  The A team beat The Settlers’ convincingly, 22 – 15, with excellent communication and team work.  The B team lost 8 – 15, unfortunately, but they played their hearts out and did everything that was asked of them.  Congratulations girls, you made us proud!

U19 Teams

An outstanding performance by the U19 teams could unfortunately not curtail The Settlers.  The B team lost 14 – 18 and the A team lost 20 – 23.   We will be playing against Bosmansdam on Thursday after school at Fairmont and against Milnerton on Saturday at Milnerton.  Please come and support us!
